There will be questions based on the above, posted from time to time to help you revise. If you need help, post your questions here.
Format of Exam paper: Same as last semester.
Section A:(60m)
1.You should know all definitions.Be able to define and give examples to support.eg.parts of speech,morpheme,allomorph,blends,content words,function words,lexeme etc,etc,etc
2.Focus on Tree Diagrams
3.Should be able to explain 'Ambiguous Sentences'.
4.Explain meanings of words in different contexts.
5.Singular/Plural words.
Section B(40m)
There will be 2 subjective questions.Each carrying 20m.
Focus on:
1.Importance of morphology,phonology,syntax,lexical categories.
2.Importance of grammar,morphemes,singular/plural,function/content words and how to teach these in an interesting manner...

1. The chickens are too hot to eat.
‘Hot’ in the sentence refers to whether the chicken contains pepper and spices and producing a burning feeling in your mouth or in other words, it can refer to the chicken has a high temperature while you trying to consume it.
2. The man rode the horse with a bad back.
‘Bad back’ in the sentence means the man rode on the sick or not in a good condition of horse. Besides, it also means that the back of the horse is unpleasant or of poor quality to be ridden on.
3. They are looking for teachers of French, German and Japanese.
This sentence shows that they are going to look for teachers from French, German and Japanese or they are searching for a teacher who is French, German and Japanese.
4. That was a bloody fish!
The term ‘bloody’ in the sentence can act as adjective or adverb. In terms of adjective, it is a kind of expression that somehow to be use to emphasize a comment or an angry statement and normally many people will find it is offensive. This may due to the fish is not fresh that had been bought from somewhere else. However, if it acts as an adverb, it carries a meaning that the fish is covered with the blood.
5. Did you box this?
‘Box’ is the ambiguous in the sentence whereby we do not sure whether we are going to prevent something from being able to move by surrounding them from people or vehicles or in the passive sense, it may refer to prevent somebody from doing what they want by creating unnecessary problems.
6. Don't get into that ugly habit!
This sentence can be meant by giving advice to somebody not to get involved in having unpleasant behavior that goes against the culture or norms. However, it also means do not ever try to practice that bad habit in the real life.
7. She looks hot in that dress.
‘Hot’ in this sentence is somehow shows the ambiguity. ‘Hot’ refers to that girl wearing the dress is attractive with the dress. It can also mean she gets angry easily in that dress.
8. This will make you smart.
What is the ‘this’ refers to in the sentence, whether it is a book or some other objects that can make somebody to be smart.
9. You've nailed it!
‘Nailed’ in this sentence refers to you’ve tightened or fasten something with a nail or nails. It can also mean you’ve caught somebody and proved they are guilty for the crime or doing something bad.
10. I told her children were noisy.
It is either telling her children directly that they were noisy or telling their mother that her children were noisy.

The first meaning of the word “hot” refers to the temperature of the environment that caused the chicken feels too hot to eat the food. The second meaning refers to the temperature of the cooked chicken which is too hot to be eaten or whether the cooked chicken had been added on pepper or chilli sauce which makes it become too spicy to be eaten.

This sentence consists of 2 meanings. The phrase “with a bad back” is the ambiguity of this sentence. The first meaning refers to the man who has a bad back, rode the horse. This sentence consists of 2 meanings. The phrase “teachers of French, German and Japanese” make this sentence become an ambiguous sentence. First meaning is that “they are looking for teachers who can teach French, German and Japanese while the second meaning that they are looking for the teacher who is French, German and Japanese.

There are two meanings of this sentence. The word “bloody” is the ambiguity of this sentence. The first “bloody” means the fish is full of blood and another meaning is used to emphasize a comment or an angry statement. It means that, that fish was a bloody–well fish.

2nd meaning is the horse that the man rode has a bad back.
3rd meaning is the man rode the horse with bad back means the direction when the man move backwards is in bad condition.
i tried to explain it from my own point of view..im not sure it is correct or not..
