ReplyDeleteWhat is Morphology:
morphology is a field of linguistics focused on the study of the forms and formation of words in a language. A morpheme is the smallest indivisible unit of a language that retains meaning. The rules of morphology within a language tend to be relatively regular, so that if one sees the noun morphemes for the first time, for example, one can deduce that it is likely related to the word morpheme.
* Syntax is the discipline that examines the rules of a language that dictate how the various parts of sentences go together. While morphology looks at how the smallest linguistic unit (called morphemes) are formed into complete words, syntax looks at how those words are formed into complete sentences.
Morphology is a field of linguistics focused on the study of the forms and formation of words in a language. It is also the study of the internal structure of words. Its interested in how the users of a given language understand complex words and invent new lexical items
ReplyDeleteSyntax is a branch of linguistics that is concerned with the study of the structure of a sentence. adjective, adverb , article, noun, noun phrase, proper noun, prepositional phrase, preposition, pronoun, sentence, verb, verb phrase.
ReplyDeleteMorphology is a level at which the structure of language is analyzed. It deals with the analysis and examination of meaningful units of forms which make up sentences. The smallest meaningful units of forms are called "morphemes" which are either "free" or "bound. The variants of a morpheme are called "allomorphs." Morphology also content the study of the use of prefixes, suffixes, and compounding to form words.
The importance of studying morphology. Morphology is the study of language structure. focuses on the system of rules followed by the speakers (or hearers) of a language. the formation and composition of words, the formation and composition of phrases and sentences from these words, sound systems, how meaning is inferred from words and concepts and how meaning is inferred from context.
1. What is morphology? What is syntax?
ReplyDeleteMorphology is the study of morphemes. Morphemes are words, word stems, and affixes, basically the unit of language one up from phonemes. Although they are often understood as units of meaning, they are usually considered as a part of languages syntax or grammar. Syntax is the study of the rules for the formation of grammatical sentences in a language and also the study of the patterns of formation of sentences and phrases from words.
2. What does the study of morphology involve?
Morphology involves the study of the structure of words in a language and the study of word formation.
3. What is the importance of studying morphology?
Learning morphology is helpful in terms of speech and fluency. Morphology is important because it helps people to understand language.
1) What is morphology? What is Syntax?
ReplyDelete- The term of morphology comes from Greek word which is morph- means shape, form. In linguistics, morphology refers to the mental system involved in word formation or to the branch in linguistics that deals with words, their internal structure and how they are formed. Syntax comes from Greek word, -syntaxis which mean arrangement. Syntax is the study of how words combine together to form larger units in human language. While morphology looks at how the smallest linguistic unit called morpheme are formed into complete words, syntax looks at how those words are formed into complete sentences.
2) What does the study of morphology involve?
- The study of morphology involve in adjustment in the shape of words that contribute to adjustments in the way speakers intend their utterances to be interpreted. It is also the parts of the word.
3) What is the importance of studying morphology?
- Morphology is importance because it can helps student to discern differences in terms of the meaning of words. This can help all students in respect in general language skills.
WHAT IS MORPHOLOGY?
ReplyDelete- Morphology can be defined as the study of word formation or word structure.
WHAT DOES THE STUDY OF MORPHOLOGY INVOLVE?
- In morphology, we will learn to analyze word formation such as morphemes or also known as the smallest units of meaning in a language, which consist of bases and affixes. Morpheme is a division of a word into parts; having its own meaning and function and occurs with a similar meaning or function as part of other words in language.
WHAT IS SYNTAX?
- Syntax is the technical term for sentence structure. In syntax, we will learn to analyze the groupings and relationships of words, phrases, clauses in the sentence. The analysis of syntactical structure involves certain principles of linearity and proximity as well as the principle of constituency and grammatically conditioned ambiguity.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING MORPHOLOGY?
- There are a lot of advantages in studying morphology. For instance, morphology is important because it helps people to understand language. it is essentially the science or construction of how language is built. For example, while two sentences may contain identical morphemes, the interpretation may differ. Besides that, other importance in studying morphology is because it also helps in respect to spelling. Making smart word choices, spelling words correctly and forming sentences properly each contribute to an overall mastery of language.

The rules of morphology within a language tend to be relatively regular, so that if one sees the noun morphemes for the first time, for example, one can deduce that it is likely related to the word morpheme.
Syntax is the discipline that examines the rules of a language that dictate how the various parts of sentences go together. While morphology looks at how the smallest linguistic unit (called morphemes) are formed into complete words, syntax looks at how those words are formed into complete sentences.
Syntax is not prescriptivist – which is to say, it does not attempt to tell people what the objectively correct way to form a sentence is. Rather, it is descriptivist, in that it looks at how language is actually used and tries to come up with rules that successfully describe what various language communities consider to be grammatical or non-grammatical. Syntax deals with a number of things, all of which help to facilitate being understood and understanding language. Without rules of syntax, there would be no foundation from which to try to discern meaning from a bunch of words strung together, whereas with syntax, an infinite number of sentences are possible using a fairly small finite number of rules.
ii. What does the study of Morphology involve?
Morphology involves the study of the structure of words in a language and the study of word formation.
iii. What is the importance of studying Morphology?
The knowledge of morphology allows us to select proper words. The knowledge enhances many areas of speech and writing inclusive of word selection, spelling and sentence formation.
It also helps us in term of speech and fluency. The definability of linguistic units and how they take part in sentence structures allows a speaker to manipulate the units ( Katamba, 2004)
TQ! ^_^
ii. What does the study of Morphology involve?
ReplyDeleteIn linguistics, morphology is the identification, analysis and description of the structure of morphemes and other units of meaning in a language like words, affixes, and parts of speech and intonation/stress, implied context (words in a lexicon are the subject matter of lexicology).
